Young India

|

What is in the Budget-Box this time? We all have our expectations of varying degree. But around all speculations there is common thing and that is very important for our economic growth. That is the creation of employment.
We all know India is rich in human resources. And today there are 48 crores people between the age of 15 to 60 . So we can say that India is demographically a young country. And estimates show this figure would be around 78 crores by 2022. So we are hoping from the planning commission to take the right measures. The time has come to take bigger strides. Because we have to generate employment at the rate of 3 crores per year to reach our target of 2022. Otherwise what is now called the demographic dividend will eventually turn into a demographic catastrophe.
There are several factors behind this mismanagement-
1)Lack of skilled labours
Present India has just 10% of the required skilled labours. Half of the seats of polytechnics and graduate schools remains empty.
2)Quality of education
There are millions of educated ciphers wandering in India looking for jobs. As Mr. Narayanmurthy said –“30% of the jobs we are giving to those who are unemployable ”.
So education is not making us “industry-ready”!
3)Government’s negligence
There should be a proper plan before giving license to tons of new colleges. There are more than 6000 engineering colleges and above 3000 MBA colleges. But the question is do we need such amount of engineers or managers? NO! The problem is not the quantity, it is the quality.
4)Strategic failures in rural areas
Just by launching schemes like NREGA and its akin govt. thinks it has done its job. It is not going to help India in any way.
Just compare it with China where the rural people are trained to build the tools required by their industries unlike India which is still going for handicrafts ,pottery ,basket-making ,etc. Need of the hour is to study the market demands and then create the required skills among the vast resource we have.
Compare with China imparting 40000 courses to its people as against 100 courses by India!
5)Education loan
It is easier to repay a loan for car or a home than a loan for education.
Around 80% of the students in Canada relies on bank loans and  India again way behind-just 3%.
So Mr. Pranab BABU are you listening?
